Does the Eaton 5sc1500i model include surge protection?

$

Sofar every UPS I looked at has surge protection mentioned in its specs. But not so for the Eaton 5sc1500i (or any of the 5sc tower models I looked at).

Does it have surge protection? If so, what are the specs?

If not, would it be recommended to put a surge protector before the UPS, or between UPS and attached devices?

Need More Power...Or do we?

Right now we have about 8 24 port non managed HP switches in our data rooms (4 locations) later this year we are going to upgrade our phone systems to IP and use POE 375 watt switches to handle the need for telephones at each desk. We are going to change over all 8 switches to these POE......

For each switch we have an apc 1U SC450 .....Do you think that we are going to need to upgrade those as well? If so what do you recommend and do you think we can still get away with 1U form factor?

Specifications of the 5SC1500i/HPE T1500 G4 - details I'd like to know

I am trying to find a few specific details on the tower model 1500VA of the 5SC line (Modelnr 5SC1500i)

I checked the website specifications, datasheet, and downloaded the manual but they're not in there.

  1. when shut down, does the UPS pass power through its outputs? If not, can shutting down the UPS be used to reduce power consumption of attached devices if they're not needed for a longer period of time, or will this be bad for the UPS?
  2. does the fan run only when charging/in AVR mode/when internal temperature requires it, or is it always on? Are the specs of the fan available, so I could replace it with a quality silent Noctua fan?
  3. What is the maximum time needed to switch to battery power in case of mains power loss?
  4. What is the part number of the replacement battery?
  5. What is the protection level of the surge protection in Joules?
  6. Is it...

APC smart UPS

I am planning to buy an APC Smart-UPS 3000 for our server room. It has a NEMA input connector for 30A.

I know we have to have an Adapter for it. My confusion is that,

Should we have to have 30 A/ 240 V or 30A/110 V?

Does it matter whether it is a 240V/110V outlet?

Rack PDU

We have a Starline UPS and its outlet is  NEMA L5-30R, the outlet is marked as 120/208V.

My guess is that is capable of supplying 120V-208V.

I need a PDU to connect to this outlet. If I buy a PDU, will it give me the same voltage 120V/208V?

Does Eaton manufacture the Powerwalker VI series?

I noticed a striking resemblance in specifications and physical properties (LCD, size, layout front and back etc) between the Bluewalker Powerwalker VI series of UPS and the Eaton 5SC series.

The HP T1500 UPS are also identical, but I found a press release announcing the cooperation between HP and Eaton, so that explains it. I could not find any such notice for the Bluewalker brand. Now, they have an enormous lineup of UPS types, and just by looking at the pictures, you'll realise they (www.bluewalker.de) buy from various companies to create such a variety of choice.

But I am very curious to know if the Powerwalker VI series (tower models) are actually build by Eaton, of if in fact Eaton has their 5SC build at the same Chinese OEM as Powerwalker.

Does anyone know if Eaton makes their lower end UPS themselves or buys them from OEM (Ellipse...

ESXi Free - Autoshutdown - Event Viewer Tasks

Hi,

Long-time lurker, first-time poster here.

I'm having an issue setting up my UPS auto-shutdown triggers.

I'm using ESXi 6.7 Free and a Windows VM to communicate with my CyberPower UPS.

I followed this guide: https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/55064-how-to-gracefully-shut-down-vsphere-5-x-esxi-free-usin...

And replaced Eaton with CyberPower PowerPanel Business as far as I could. Eaton software doesn't like talking to my CyberPower UPS (go figure!).

Here's my issue. I have Event Viewer logging turned on for the UPS software, and can successfully trigger a shutdown of the ESXi server and VM, BUT I cannot stop it from automatically running the script again when power is restored or a reboot is performed.

What I'm noticing is that all event viewer logs from PowerPanel have Event ID 2485. So, whenever a log is generated for Power Failure,...

UPS with ATS - Configuration Help

Hi,

I have this situation where the equipment only has about 500W draw but the building encounters very weird drops and outages frequently. So ideally, I'd like to do a build as such:

  • 1x ATS strip -CyberPower PDU15M10AT
  • 2x Line Interactive Sine wave UPS around 1000W -CyberPower OR1500LCDRM1U

Scenario would be as such:

  • Load will be taxing only UPS A with possible brownouts and initial power failures.
  • Outage will drain UPS A then fail-over to secondary UPS B.

In case you'd like a story, a server went down with 2 UPS units misreporting their load times from 20 minutes and then down to 3 minutes when actually unplugged (after the power outage incident). 700W capacity and around 300W load. So when our power outage happened, they really just went haywire on our equipment. Not great. One UPS wouldn't even come back online again after the...

Does your server room utilize a "Power Conditioner"?

$

In addition to using enterprise level UPSs, our server room has a 50 Amp power conditioner. It was installed in 1992 and is failing; the symptoms are higher than normal voltage (127v) and momentary power outages. The UPSs are compensating to the failures (and alerting me) but clearly we need to address the situation. I have about 30 devices in the server room that get their power from the power conditioner.
Since the symptoms happen randomly, any testing by an electrician has come back normal, because the tests happen while the power levels are at normal levels, so I cannot confirm that the unit is failing but all indicators suggest it is.
My question is - Does your server room use a Power Conditioner? In previous jobs, none of my server rooms used a conditioner so I'm thinking I could do without it. They are expensive - $10k installed....

APC Smart UPS SURT 10000 XLI automatically restarts

I have an APC UPS Smart Model SURT 10000 XLI. I have connected almost 4KW load on it since last 4 years.

Last night suddenly all the system restarts automatically. All the systems powered On. When I checked the UPS, four battery's leds are green but not single Load led turn green while all load is on ups. I tried to ping the network but no ping response received. The network management card model is AP9631.

What could be the fault?

ESXi 6.7 and APC UPS - Graceful shutdown communication problems.

Hi.

I'm an abolute pre-novice Linux user - but anyway I tried to follow @Brendonbrown (thanks Brendon) example here. Before I started, I also installed the NUT server on a Ubuntu server installed (as guest on my ESXi 6.7 server) for this purpose only.

Everything looks right but when I try to test with "upsc upsserver@" from the ESXi server I get: "Error: Connection failure: Connection refused". If I test with the same command on the ubuntu server, I get the same result. But if I use "localhost" instead of on the ubuntu serrver, I get the expexted result.

I assume the problem is with the ubuntu server - but where should I look ? And how do I debug ?

Best regards !

I have an annoying alert on APC's rack smart UPS. I hope some of you had the same issue as me and resolved it.

We have a PC that has the printer software installed on it.

We get a ton of alerts from UPS saying the unauthorized access. I have no way of blocking/allowing the UPS not to send an alerts

How do we get away with this APC? Do not say exclude the IP.

APC Alert --> send to phone call

We want to setup our APC Symmetra to alert us via phone call (rather than email) when certain major events occur. The only way we can conceive of is to use an email-to-voice relay service.

Does anyone have any recommendations or alternatives?

Tripp Lite PDU's all unreachable

I have 3 Tripp Lite PDU's,
2x standard Switched PDUs:  PDUMH20NET2
And one Switched ATS PDU: PDUMH15ATNET

This all worked about a year ago...

Now I can't connect to any of them w/ the web gui or the triplite windows tool.
I can't ping or SSH to the 2  PDUMH20NET2,
I can ping the ATS, and I can try to SSH into it.
but If I enter an incorrect password it says incorrect pw,
and If I enter the right password it just hangs.

Any tips to get these working again?

APC NS1250 UPS. No idea where cables go, it's not like a car.

cables in this UPS were messed up when I got it. I need some input on what goes where on the first and second battery. Two of the cables come out of a harness one red,one black, there is a short Red cable with a red dot on it, I think that means it is for using as a red cable/post . Makes this sound like it might be a serial situation, I'm lost. Really would appreciate some help.

I`ve installed IPM (v1.67 release 243) and I`ve addedVMware vCenter (Version 6.7.0.30000 Build 13639309) in this IPM. A also see my 3 ESXi which are part of this vCenter in Views - Node List. But I do not see these ESXi is Management - Nodes Settings.

Does anybody now what should be done to appear these ESXi in Nodes Settings list ?
I would like to use Shutdown settings which is option within this nodes setting.

Any Spiceheads Use SolarWinds NPM + Tripp Lite Networked PDUs/UPSes?

I recently created some Universal Device Pollers (UnDPs) for WEBCARDLX-based (a.k.a. "LX platform") Tripp Lite devices:

https://github.com/dzomaya/SolarWinds_UnDP (Check out the read me to see my disclaimers and details on what each poller does)

They may require some tweaking before production use, but seemed to work fine in basic testing.

Any Spiceheads currently using SolarWinds and Tripp Lite and want to give these a try?

If yes: I'm interested in user feedback and would like to modify based on what I hear from you and other users over time.

Also, if you have requests for other network management systems you'd like to see Tripp Lite create something similar for, feel free to suggest those here.

Note: For environments where you have multiple UPSes from different vendors, you're often better off using "UPS MIB"/RFC1628 MIB based pollers...

Hoping to simplify our primary battery backup solution

$

I'm hoping to find a more simplified/convenient way to handle battery backups in our network closet. We're currently using 4 CyberPower UPS units, but my IT manager is interested in finding something like a single unit that could serve the purpose in a better way. Right now, each UPS is essentially backing up a single PDU, though as with everything, it's not quite as simple as that.

This area is home to 6 or so switches, a handful of physical servers and a pair of ESXI hosts for virtual machines. Roughly 12,000 watts of equipment, if that's a helpful measurement.
Researching this has me stumped, I'm not sure what to look for. What are you guys using for your solutions? I'm more looking for some broad strokes recommendations rather than specific models - even pointing me in the direction of an appropriate vendor would be very helpful....
