Eaton IPM changed password on a 5PX UPS Device

Hi,

I had to reinstall Eaton IPM and when I configured it to my 5PX UPS Device it seemed to have changed my password.

First I added the user name and password through "Settings > Auto Discovery > Set node access paramters" and it got connected.

After that I went to "Management > Nodes Settings" because I should change the SMTP-server. So I changed that and the clicked "Synchronize" and after that my password ain't working anymore and I just get "access denied" on that node in IPM.

I have tried my old user and password but nothing seems to work.

Is it possibly to reset it without that "serial console thing"? Through SSH or something? Or is it the same user and password there?

Thanks.

PowerChute Network Shutdown - enable SNMP?

I'm just installing PowerChute Network Shutdown 4.2.0 for the first time and looking for some help installing and configuring it to shut down are servers during power events.

During the install it asks if I want to enable SNMP which is unticked by default.

Do I need to enable this?

Its doesn't have that option in this video I was following:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwCGCKrvQfQ

Any other advice/tips for a first time install are also welcome.

Many thanks in advanced.

UPS Software

Greetings.

I would like to know what everybody is using for their UPS software.

We are looking at purchasing either APC's SMX2000RMLV2UNC or TrippLite's SMART2200RM2UN.

Our main requirements are:

Ability to see battery status/age

Alerts emailed using internal Exchange server

Devices able to be scanned and added to Spiceworks Inventory

The assumption is we'll be able to monitor/report/alert on many other things, but these are our minimums.

Thank you!

When to retire UPS units?

We had a UPS fail around a week ago, battery was junk caused UPS to fail. UPS is a tripplite 2200 model, uses the old sine wave output, newer ones are probably more efficient than this I would think. Another one is a smaller ~1000 watt unit and battery failed.

The smaller unit appears to be from like 1999, the others are probably like 2003-2004. They still seem to work, but wondering if it would be worth putting new batteries in, or if they should be retired due to like 15 yrs of service.

we have a sort of newer modified sine wave APC unit, I may like to re-use too, but wondering if maybe that is too old to repair too. I don't care for APC much, but if I can use to keep the switch and/or maybe a PC in our shop working i'm okay with it.

The 2200 UPS is a bit $$ to replace, the smaller ones I could see possibly replacing totally.

Guidance on Power Backup / Power Conditioning Solutions

We are a manufacturer with automation systems in place for some of our production lines.  We experience temporary power outages and 'dips' often which cause havoc on our automation lines, causing periods of downtime to recover and re-home robotic equipment.

We are looking for:

  • 24VDC Battery Backup & Power Conditioning for internal controls and PLC's; including drives and sensors
  • 208V Cabinet Power Conditioners
  • 480V Robot Power Conditioners

I was thinking Eaton  MUST have a solution for this.

Proper Use of UPS Units

Hello,

I switch off the button of the UPS unit DEXP EURO after turning off the computer. But the UPS unit is still connected to electricity and can emit a single clicking sound 30 minutes after the button was switched off. Is it necessary to unplug the unit from the electric outlet after use each time? Or are UPS units designed to be always connected to electricity?

Eaton 5PX 1000 - I'm lost.... unusable right now.

So I bought a 5PX 1000 with an additional EBM at the advice mostly from Mike(Eaton) in this thread:

https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2099053-ups-battery-generator-backup-personal-server-workstat...

I finally got around to hooking them up. They seemed to come on ok and the lcd shows no errors. I plugged my stuff into group 1 today and things seemed ok. At some point the power was turned off to them, I dont know when exactly. It could have been a few days ago even as theres a light switch that controls it. And I didn't notice it was off til today when:

EVERYTHING shut down. Hard. My servers, pc everything that was plugged into it. Was awful. Luckily no data loss, but it did the very thing it was meant to prevent. I went over and noticed the power was off. I assumed the batteries were dead. I turned the power back onto it and powered...

Backup ups xs 1300 question

We're using backup UPS XS 1300 in our office as a power backup for the office computer & the security board. This one:

https://www.amazon.com/APC-1300VA-Battery-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B000XFXEDW

We had it for quite a while. So last saturday I noticed that the equipment was completely dead. I checked and the issue was this UPS. I tried to restart it by holding the power button, but it refused to start. I was giving off fast beeps when I was holding down the power button. I was able to eventually get the power back on by unplugging this UPS and plugging everything directly into the wall.

Also note that the power did not go out that night. (I can tell by the Microwave clock still being on.) So for some reason this UPS did what it was supposed to guard against -- it killed the power when the wall power was still on :) Also note that I...

Fans and beeping on Eaton UPSes.

To be specific, I'm talking about5E2000iUSB. There are not many options of UPS in my country. I decided to go with this model, but can't find much info about it on the internet. One thing I read couple of times is that its fans being really loud. I'm okay with fans spinning hard when the UPS is running on battery, but do they spin even when the UPS is getting the power from the wall?

One other thing I would like to ask is that can you permanently mute the beeping that occurs when power goes out? My current - soon to be replaced - UPS has a very annoying, really loud beeping when the power goes out. And the only way to mute it by physically pressing a button on UPS, or having a computer connected to it while its software is running. So if that computer is turned off for some reason, or if the software is not running and I'm in another...

Symmetra 40K runtime calibration

Hi all,

A question regarding run time calibration on theAPC Symmetra 40K UPS.

We have a good number of these in operation, and on a recent switch over to UPS power during some maintenance works, we have noticed that one of the units is reporting a strangely low run time.

To troubleshoot this, we'd like to start with a run time calibration, as the graphs populated in our monitoring platform point towards a disconnect between the capacity and the run time, particularly when compared with our other units.

If we run the automated run time calibration, will this drop load at the end of the process, or will it recover prior to full depletion?

I know that the manual calibration process recommends putting the unit into bypass and running off-load, however the automatic process seems to hint at this being ok to undertake with normal load.

We'd like...

What to use to reboot a device on ping loss

We're looking for a device to cycle power on ping loss or remotely.

I've used devices like this one https://dlidirect.com/products/ethernet-power-controller-5and this one https://www.startech.com/ca/Server-Management/server-rack-accessories/rack-pdus/2-Port-Managed-IP-PD.... before.

We have an Audio Visual Vendor wanting to work with http://portal.pakedge.com/products-ippower.htmlbut I'm hesitant since the information on it is dealer only and he seem a bit confused.

I figured this was a good time to see what others are using for auto-ping, scheduling of device power, and remote power control.

Desktop Rejects UPS?

This has been baffling me for the better part of the day. There seems to be a machine that is rejecting a UPS when plugged into one. I have only been able to get it to boot today when it has been plugged into just an extension cord or the wall directly. I have tried a new UPS, all new cords, all new peripherals, etc. My only thoughts are that maybe the PSU is going bad on the machine and cannot provide the CPU enough power to boot. One of the UPS that I tried was straight out of the box. Please help.

It seems like the initial issue occurred last night when the machine attempted to update Windows. Logs don't show much.

Evening Everyone,

I have acquired an APC Switched Rack PDU AP7921 . I am using it in my home lab setup. I have noticed that it is running an older version of the firmware.

Can someone run me through the upgrade process? When i looked on APC's website i can only find the firmware for  AP7921B. Not sure if this would work with my device or not.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Plug my UPS into PDU

Ok so this question has a lot of threads on a lot of forums but it never actually gets answered. The answers always say you should plug the UPS directly into the wall but I need to know if it actually matters. The reason given by the manufacturer to me was useless. “So everything on the PDU gets the UPS” well that answer was totally useless since I made my scenario clear in the email.

What I want to do is plug my PDU into outlet and then plug 6x 1000w UPS into my PDU, 3 into each 15amp bank. And then plug 2 850w PSU into each UPS (note: each PSU only has a 400w load).

Yes UPS - PDU would be ideal I agree but that is $5,000 - PDU and I want PDU -$150x6=$900

So I just wanna know if there is any safety or whatever else reason to not plug multiple USP into my PDU beyond the we don’t r. Omend it because we don’t want to be sued when idiots...

What voltage UPS is sufficient for 2x 550W power supplies?

Got 2x Dell PowerEdge R430's with dual 550w power supplies in each. I will only use one power supply per server on the battery back-up. The redundant supplies will just be surge protected. I may or may not attach the monitor to the battery side. Does anyone know if a 1500V CyberPower UPS would be sufficient?

SURTD3000XLT + AP9626 in United States

Hey! Thank you for checking this out.

I just got my hands on a second-hand SURTD3000XLT. I want to use this in my server rack in my home.

My electrical panel allows me to use two (120v) rails in order to get 240v (probably 248v since I'm measuring 124v per rail with no load attached).

I saw that the SURTD3000XLT is usually paired with a Step-Down transformer (specifically the AP9626) so I purchased one separately.

Before I invest more money in purchasing batteries for the SURTD3000XLT, I'd like to hear from others who might have implemented the same stack in their environment. The NEMA L6-30P plug/receptacle has only 3 prongs (2x hot, 1x ground) - I'm assuming that Neutral is not required for the operation of this UPS. The UPS itself seems to be able to take anything from 180v to 280v.

I'd like to understand whether the output of the...

Eaton 5E2000iusb - Really slow charging, loud fans

$

I found the UPS with fans running when I came home today. Then I noticed it was saying 75% battery left in my computer which the UPS is connected to. When there is a power outage on my house, I can tell it by my microwave's clock resetting. Which was not the case. So I have no idea why UPS went below 100% when there's no outage. Anyway that's the least of my problems.

It has been 9 hours since I'm home, and it's still charging. It shows 98% battery at the moment. And the fan noise is really driving me crazy. The room temperature is 20 Celcius/ 68 Fahrenheit, and UPS is not hot or anything to touch. I had a budget Powercom UPS before which didn't make a peep unless it was running on battery power.

So 1.) Is it normal that it has been 9 hours between 75% and 97% battery capacity and it's still charging? and 2.) Is there any way to reduce...
