How Do I Find Power Draw/Consumption For Network Switches?

$

First I will say I've found many articlesasking questions about UPSs but they did not help me.

I'm looking into purchasing 2Extreme ERS 4950GTS-PWR+and a UPS them and my firewall (375W). I've tried every selector tool out there that I can find however none of them have this model switch as an option. When I look at the tech specs for this model switch , I cannot decipher the power specs in order to find out what capacity UPS is needed. For just 1 of the switches it says 1400W and a little lower says 73.4W but does this take the draw from PoE into consideration?

What specs do I use when calculating my total draw and how do I consider PoE+ into that equation?

UPS that can shut down multiple servers without dedicated networking?

$

Hi,

Need a new UPS for a site. Normally only have a small number of physical servers in any given site, maybe 2 or 3 server machines and a NAS.

Obviously most UPS come with a USB port that can connect to a single physical machine and instruct it (via software) to gracefully shut down in event of power loss. Then there are those that accept network cards (which I've found to be costly and troublesome in the past, and die quite often) and these can then shutdown multiple servers.

Is there such a thing as a single UPS that connect by USB to a single physical host and then that host can act as a sort of master, sending instruction to some kind of agent on other hosts (via the standard mgmt network) and get them to shut down as well, without the use of the UPS network cards?

Thanks.

How am I suppose to update a Dell UPS' network card's firmware?

Hello,

I'm trying to update the firmware for a Dell 5600W UPS unit's network card. However, while I have found the firmware (from 2013: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-uk/product-support/product/dell-line-interactive-rack-ups-5600r...) I don't know how to install it?

In theory, there's some "UPS Management software" that should detect the USB connection to the UPS when plugged to the laptop. But I can't find such software, I've installed "Dell UPS Management console" but this does not react to the connection. The firmware's file are .bin and .mib.

How am I suppose to proceed to perform the update? Such a simple task.

Thanks.

APC MATRIX - will adding batteries in parallel extend run time?

$

hi all, new user / noob,

Here in South Africa, we are plagued with "load-shedding", typically 4-5 hours of no power.

I was gifted an APC MATRIX 5000, as well as a single Smart Cell XR housing.

I have 12 batteries ( deep cycle VRLA 12V 75AH - same as what is normally in the SmartCell) unfortunately additional SmartCell housings are not locally available.

i intend to run the house electronics (Router, Broadband connection, LED Tv's, LED lights - average drain+- 800W ) from the UPS,

If i wire all the batteries to the MATRIX 5000 in 3 parallel banks of 48V, will this result in a longer up time?

I have not been able to locate information on the web explaining the actual metrics the MATRIX uses to determine the run-time?

Additionally - the APC user manuals mention a user-replaceable battery communication card, but there is no mention of a...

Emails do not work with Eaton 9PX 1000i RT 2U + Network M2 card

Hello,

We have two Eaton UPS units (9PX1000iRT2U,  5P1150) both with Network M2 cards running firmware version 1.7.5 . "Save & test server connection" and "Send test email" from the page Settings/Email work perfectly for both UPS units. I get "Notify on events" and "Periodic report" emails from the 5P1150 but not from the 9PX1000iRT2U. There are no errors in the system logs on the 9PX1000iRT2U. The SMTP settings are the same on both UPS units. Any ideas what can be wrong?

I noticed that the 9PX1000iRT2U shows "Used 100 %" for the processor on the page Card/Resources. For 5P1150 the processor showd "Used 28 %". I don't know if this is a problem
and if it could be the reason for the email sending problems.

Hi Mike (Eaton) I have 2 * 5P 1550 which I am in the process of refurbishing for my use in the lab, as they are plastic opening them up to get to the internal is not easy when compared to the 5PX1500 or the like.

is there a secret to opening all the clips or is there an order/process to flow to allow you to unclip the case?
Thanks

What size UPS

Assuming I'm going for a rack mounted 5U UPS and capacity to run for 5-10 minutes to allow servers to be shut down properly.
How do I go about working out the battery capacity needed?

Is there an average power use for a server I can use?

Most of my servers are 4U Proliants. DL380 G7, G8 and G9.

I know there are many factors affecting what each server needs. I just wondered if there is something generic I can use.
Or is there something I can use to see how much power is in use?

Cheers.

Need a battery backup for a Server 2019 VM with Ethernet only

I can't pass USB data to the VM, the PM currently does not support this.  So I need a Ethernet enabled battery backup that works with Server 2019, and this DOES NOT need to be a data-center solution; I only need to support the equipment long enough to complete a shutdown.

I have checked with APC and they currently do not have anything that directly meets my needs. The PM supplier is currently looking into a solution on their end but I want to have some options.

In the past we have used APC BK350s for our individual industrial Windows 7/Windows 10 computers, those are USB based so they won't work in my situation at this time.

What settings does it think are wrong? I have let everything on both machines use defaults. Can someone help be get this connected? TIA.

Configuring/Testing Eaton Network Management Card

I'm trying to check out the Network Management Card in an Eaton 5P 850R. I'm running IPP 1.67 on Ubuntu 18.04 (all updates applied), this functions as expected proving comms from the 18.04 to the 850R is ok. In trying to connect to the NMcard via UPS Date/RS232 port I get:

[01:27:37:908] Connection established with 192.168.1.53

[01:27:48:900] NSM Connection closed with 192.168.1.53 after receive error

which cycles continuously.

Since Hyperterminal is not available on Ubuntu I've tried several alternatives, eg PuTTy, CuteCom etc, Hyperterminal is also not now available for Windows 10 where I've tried PuTTY which gives similar results.

The best I can get is by disconnecting and reconnecting the LAN cable:

[01:32:31:208] IP configuration :

[01:32:31:228] IP address : 192.168.1.22

[01:32:31:256] Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0

Eaton Network-MS card unresponsive

I have an Eaton 5PX2200 and have just put in a Network-MS card

There is a stable orange light on the 100M LED, and an intermittently flashing green light on the ACT LED, but it's not getting an IP address from my router (nothing in ARP etc).

I've tried allocating it an IP using its MAC address, but no dice.

I've tried connecting to it via the serial port, but get no response with the suggested 9600/8N1 settings

While it's possible there's a problem with my RS232-USB stack (so I can't reset it or look at whatever network settings it might be trying to use), am I correct in thinking that it should at least come up with some info in the UPS LCD screens ?

So when navigating through the UPS LCD menu, it should at least show me the card's MAC address under Information/COM Card MAC ? All the COM card info pages (IPv4,IPv6,MAC) are listed as ------...

Belkin F6C1100-UNV 1100VA Uninterruptable battery configuration?

$

I inherited a flock of Belkin F6C1100-UNV UPSs that don't have the original batteries in them. I've obtained replacement batteries however I can't determine if these are 12volt or 24volt systems. If I had to guess I would say they are 24volt but there is no jumper inside to give me a clue if this is correct. So, being the kind of person who absolutely wants to know for sure that what I'm about to do is correct I'd appreciate if anyone out there has any working knowledge of how to conect the batteries in these systems. Parallel or series? 12volt or 24volt? There really is an absence of information about these particular UPSs online anywhere. If there is no meaningful info able to be obtained from the Spiceworks community would it be reasonable for me to connect the leads to a multimeter to find out? I really have only a basic working...

Connected device to UPS: PC (aprox. 450w) and Router (???watts) only
Setup: Main outlet ---> 500 watts AVR ---> UPS ---> PC / Router

Question:
1) is the clicking sound normal?

UPS worked with my PC during an outage and fluctuations a weeks ago.

UPS for remote campus with switched outlets and network managed

$

We have a small remote campus that just had the 2200 model Tripplite unit fail on us. Because this is remote campus i am thinking we should get something that has remote management for monitoring rebooting devices.

Here is what we have there for load and what i want to control.

1 mid range server

2 Cisco 3850 switch POE on about 24PT of 1 of the 48PT units. These are also connected in stackpower with 3 power supplies.

1 firewall, 1 analog to voip ATA unit

What i would like is have is as follows:

2 outlets for server so i can do a hard power off if needed.

3-4 outlets i can use to reload the switches.

1-2 outlets for firewall/ voip ATA.

Ideally i would like this all in the UPS unit or maybe a short horizontal rackmount PDU as this is like a 3FT tall rack.

I think the only caveat with remote control would be if I power off the switches that it...

Tripp Lite Smart1500LCDT Loud Fan Noise

$

Hi everyone, hoping to get some feedback on in issue that started last night. I have a Tripp Lite Smart1500LCDT that I use to protect my TV, receiver, appletv, wireless router and internet modem. I purchased this earlier this year and it has been rock solid and silent. The fan would only be audible when it goes onto battery however, last night there was a power outage for about a second (literally almost like someone flipped a switch on and off) and when I got up this morning I hear the fan on the UPS going as if its on battery.

I've checked it out and its online, I've done the following so far;

- Powered off and unplugged for about 10 minutes

- Ran it on battery for about 10 minutes and then plugged it back in

- Ran a self test which passed without errors

The fan is still going like crazy, can anyone suggest something else that I can try?...
