20A Strip on a 15A outlet?

$

I accidently purchased a 20A surge strip when I needed a 15A one. Is it ok to put an adapter on it as long as all the devices attached are not more than 15A?

I'll probably return it anyways since a 15A is much cheaper but I want to know in case I run into this type of situation again.

Thanks!

Eaton 5P battery fault error 0x607

I have an out of warranty Eaton 5P 650 UPS (the rack-mounted version) that's reporting a battery fault with error code 0x607 every time it comes out of rest mode in the ABM cycle.

It's not a genuine battery fault. I've tested it with both known-good cells from another unit and brand new cells, and the same error appears at the same point in the cycle.

Does anyone know the specifics of what error 0x607 actually means, or has anyone encountered it before?

UPS Monitoring and Email: Failure and Alternatives?

Greetings All,

I am trying to get my UPS software (ViewPower) to send email alerts for power outages, battery health and so on. My problem is that despite all settings being correct I always receive the error message "Failed to send Test mail". The firewall is set to allow smtp through 465 and I am using a gmail account for this since we use Gmail for Enterprise. All other client PC's connect through Outlook no problem in this manner but this software is not happy and I cannot work out why, below is a sample of the error when trying 465 port and for laughs the 587 port even though that is not allowed.

Best place to install APC PCNS?

I am looking at setting up APC's PowerChute Network Shutdown and I am trying to figure out the best place to install it. I have a physical exchange server, but I don't know if it is the best idea to install it there. Otherwise I have a number of Hyper-V virtual guests or the hosts, but I don't like the idea of installing it on a host system either. Any recommendations?

Are APC SmartUPS 2200XL batteries Hot Swappable

Based on what I have found online as I have no documentation for this device, they are, but believe it or not everything you read on the internet is true, So to get a knowledgeable opinion, I wanted to post this question to the IT world at Spiceworks as I trust what I find on here to be much more accurate then what is posted online. Can I swap these batteries without having to shut down the UPS or having to shut down all the servers?

Daisy-chaining sim-sine and pure sine

Hi,

Issue –

In a few days, my power supplier (Con Edison) will be shutting off power from 9am – 6pm.I have a device that absolutely has to retain power.Device specs listed below and it will be the only device plugged into the unit.

If the power resumes prior to the battery on my CyberPower simulated sine unit (CP1500AVRLCD) depleting, life will be good.

If not, my plan is to time things.Optimally, 5 minutes before the battery completely drains itself, I would like to plug my simulated-sine unit into a CyberPower pure sine unit (GX1325U) and rely on that battery. Please note that I am aware I will not be able to “time” with such precision. My point here is to illustrate my thinking in a perfect world.

This is a one-time plan to get me through the day.Is this feasible? What am I not considering?

Thanks!

Dell Multi-UPS Management Console vCenter integration

Hello,
I have two "Dell UPS Rack 1920W/ 1500W LV" (K792N) ( FW 01.14.0003) with Network Management cards H910P (FW 01.18.0005).
They are managed by Dell Multi-UPS Management Console - 01.08 build 0015.
I see there are no newer updates.
Recently we updated vCenter to version 6.x and ability for integration with vCenter has been lost (does not work any more).
On DELL UPS resource page http://www.dellups.com/resources page I can see dell products are now pointing to APC support page.
I tried also to use PowerChute Network Shutdown v4.2 for virtualisation but I am stuck with Network Management Card registration (H910P does not have such a thing as "authentication phrase").
Q:
-Anybody knows if there will be updates or I will have to abandon Dell UPSes?
-Any advice how can I utilize/configure existing equipment?
-Any chance I can use PowerChute in...

Hello

This is my scenario:

I’ve installed Eaton Intelligent Power Manager on a virtual machine and Eaton Intelligent Power Protector in 8 physical servers.  How can I configure all the 8 servers to shutdown automatically when the UPS goes under 20%?

Thanks!

Looking for Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) for a mini refrigerator

$

I'm looking for a UPS, that will power our companies mini refrigerator if a power outage occurs. Lets say, for a power outage that lasts for 2 hours, so we have enough time to move the contents to another refrigerator. If someone could help me find an affordable UPS that would suffice for this particular scenario it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also, if it is not much more money to purchase a UPS that would last for more than 2 hours, I'm definitely willing to buy it.

We are keeping medical equipment in here, I'm aware that a generator, propane refrigerator, and medical refrigerators are all options here. However, I spoke with my boss and he does not want to have to buy anything like that and is not worried about temperature fluctuation, that normally occurs with refrigerators. So, a UPS that will last 2 hours is all we need.

Strange Eaton UPS network card reset

$

Hi,

We just found everything powered off. Yesterday, repeating, very short power problems caused the battery to go low and shutdown, but today we checked the logs, and found this strange messages:

2018/06/20   18:11:58  Web Server is not responding, Reset the card !!!
1969/12/31   23:59:59   Eaton UPS Web Card startup

Take notice of the date!!

The fact that the date was reset made the log analysis harder. I searched for the Network-MS card firmware upgrade on Eaton's site, but didn't find it. What can we do?

I've got an old Minuteman Pro700E UPS that I want to press into service, however, I can't seem to get the USB drivers working correctly to enable SentryPlus monitoring for this device.  I've downloaded the recommended driver from Minuteman, but no luck.  Does anybody have any idea how to get this pig working?

It will be backing up my 2012 R2 Domain Controller.  Thanks!

APS BR1000 won't power on

I have an APC Pro BR1000G back-up UPS.  I purchased it March 2017, it has been set up and running just fine until today.  I had a power outage, the UPS did it's job, keep my desktop computer and cable modem/wifi running.  I shut my computer off and turned off the UPS.  After an hour the power came back on but the UPS would not power up.  I checked the house circuit breakers and none had been tripped, I pressed the circuit breaker on the back of the unit but it didn't help.  When I press the on button the screen flashed on for a fraction of a second.  Did my unit die, am I doing something wrong?  Any ideas of what I can try next?

Can't enable the frequency converter on an Eaton 9130 UPS

$

Hello good people,Mike (Eaton),windso (Eaton)

I have an issue with one of my UPSs, an Eaton 9130 in particular. The 9130 does not like the electricity that our generator feeds him in the case of a power outage, starts beeping maddeningly and refuses to charge his batteries. This alone is strange, as the voltage and frequency are nearly exactly the same as in the mains, and the other UPSs, also manufactured by Eaton (powerware) don't have any issue with it. I looked through the settings (from the LCD) on the 9130, and tried to enable the frequency converter option, but every time I do it just reverts back to 'disabled'.

I have two questions: 1) Any Idea why the 9130 does not accept the power coming from the generator?

2) Why can't I enable the frequency converter option?

Oh and what on earth is the official plural form of 'UPS'?

Cheers

What is the Large Round High Power Port on UPS Battery Backup Called?

If I want to find a surge suppressor only for this type outlet, is there one made? Or can anyone give me an idea of what I should be looking for? The outlets were selected based on their design with the eventual goal of putting somewhat of a "whole building" or at least partial building UPS / Battery backup system in place where the battery backup is a rack mount setup and it feeds back out to these battery-backup specific outlets for laboratoryequipment.

I will attach a few pictures of the outlets for reference. We basically have one machine that does not require a battery backup, but would be nice to have a surge suppressor if one spare battery backup does not work for it.

Thanks for any thoughts.

Do you purchase a UPS for every user PC?

At my work, most of our buildings are on diesel generators. Unfortunately when the power goes off, it blips for about 3 seconds for the generator to kick in; enough to take PCs offline. I have all our servers, networking, and very mission critical personnel on UPS batteries; however, a vast majority of user PCs (including my own) are not on UPS's. On average the power goes out where we are about once every 3 months or so, but there are occasionally times where it goes out more often than that. Once the generator kicks in, users can boot their PCs back up right away. I often get staff that complain when the power goes out, especially that came from elsewhere, about why they don't have UPS on their own machines. They bring up a home UPS only costs about $70, yes, but that's just for one, we have about 150 users, replacing every 3 years...

Switch won’t work works won’t work!

A POE switch (let’s say the name as Belgium switch) in building A all of a sudden switched itself off. Connected switch on different electric socket in the same building but no luck to make it work. It did not work on UPS battery also.Connected Belgium switch to building B and it works.

Now I connect a non POE switch ( France) in Building A and it works fine.

Electricians confirmed the power voltage is normal. How do you address this problem?

Matrix 3000 battery communication lost, batteries replaced

$

Matrix 3000 (APC) has been showing battery communication lost for some time, talked to site tech and batteries are original over 10 years old. No runtime shown.

Replaced batteries correctly, put back online, self test at unit passes. Cannot do battery calibrations until charge on batteries is 100%. Currently at 98% for the last 24 hours, same as at install. Date was reset via network port for battery change. Battery charge % and voltage are same for last 24 hours. Checked the RJ9 cable from UPS to battery box, goes from batt.comm. on UPS to batt out on battery box. Red light for bad battery is lit on front at all times.

I cannot see and don't believe batteries are charging. Runtime shows zero since I can't do the calibration.

I am going to get the site tech to try a new RJ9 from a phone handset and see what happens.

Odd thing is it is...

Time for some new UPS

and I have a problem. As much as I like Mike and David from Eaton, I've become a bit disillusioned with our Eaton UPSs and I don't think we'll be looking at them for this purchase.

After many years as an APC customer I was tired of swollen batteries and tried an Eaton UPS. I was happy enough with it that we have bought 11 of them in different flavors, along with an ePDU. And now it's time to switch back to APC.

The reasons for this? I'll list them; they may seem minor but they are starting to add up.

Biggest problem is a 6 year old 5PX that will email saying it's lost AC power, then 2 seconds later AC power has been restored. Only problem with this is that we didn't lose AC power. The UPS is plugged into the same receptacle as another 5PX and there's no problem reported on that one. The response from support is to replace the unit.

UPS APC 1000 Web Interface

$

We just purchased an APC smart UPS 1000. I am trying to setup the IP and notification list but I cannot reach the web interface. This comes with that cloud view access which is only for status updates. The device currently is receiving a DHCP address which is pingable but I cannot reach it in the browser. I have read over the manual that came with it and all they reference is the powerchute software which we don't utilize. Did I miss something blatantly obvious or is there no web interface anymore on the newer models? All I want to do is change the ip settings which I believe can be done in telnet but also need email for UPS test/power alerts.
