I have a couple of questions with redundant power and my UPS. I have 2 servers and they each have redundant power. They are connected to a APC battery that will auto-shutdown after 5 minutes of on-battery. Before I configured this, they were connected to this APC battery and then another UPS that is used for firewall, switches, etc.
Since I configured it to auto-shutdown, I needed it to be configured to turn back on automatically once power was restored. I have to do this because I am the only IT person and if I am unavailable, I need to rely on this option.
The UPS I have the switches in does not include auto-shutdown, etc. It is simply a UPS with no options. When I have power connected between the two, the servers won't turn back on because they are still getting power from the "simple" UPS. The only way to have the servers turn back on is to have them unplugged from that UPS.
Should I plug both redundant power plugs into the same UPS? I know if that UPS goes down, then it takes everything down with it. But on the other hand, if one of the power supplies go bad, it still has another power supply that kicks in. We are a public library and not in the best financial situation right now to buy another "good" UPS.
