Hi
Before posting my question on Spiceworks, I have done my homework and read EVERY manuals and bit of information I could find for my EATON UPS on how to gracefully shutdown virtual machines and the ESXi hosts.
I have to admit that I am now even more confused than when I started. I could not find a single document outlining in single steps how to get a EATON 5130 to shut down gracefully a bunch of VMs and ESXi hosts managed by VCenter.
Here's my configuration:
- EATON 5130 RT 1750 with network card
- 3x ESXi 5.1 hosts (VMWare essentials)
- 1x VCenter Server 5.1 running on a physical machine
So far, I have installed the EATON Intelligent Power Manager (IPM) for Windows on the same PC where VCenter is installed.
Installation was successful. I can see my 5130 UPS, but a quick scan doesn't return any other nodes.
If I install IPM on another computer, I can see the UPS and a quick scan will find my local PC and the VCenter PC.
Is IPM not supposed to be installed on the same computer as VCenter?
I also downloaded the IPM virtual appliance (600MB ova file).
After installing the virtual applicance on one of my host, I can connect to the IPM web gui and scan multiple nodes, but when I simulate a power outage at the UPS, the appliance shuts down the VM on that host and then shuts itself down and the ESXi host never shuts down.
Do I need that virtual applicance at all?
Shouldn't I be able to install IPM on my VCenter and see some nodes?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
