Right now I have an APC PowerChute Business script which shuts down our old 3Com PBX via Telnet as part of the shutdown sequence that's running on my last physical host that is hooked up to a UPS via USB, my problem is that host is going to be replaced by another Virtual Host next year, I'll also be replacing the UPS' next year as well. Which means all the UPS' are going to be network managed and my ESXi boxes will be shutdown using PCNS (or equivalent) agents. I've already been looking around for an APC solution to shut it down using a Net managed UPS since I already have NMCs in 2 of my UPS', but PCBS can't manage a network UPS so I can't just install it on a VM and point it to a UPS IP for signaling, and from all appearances I can't configure the NMC or the Windows PCNS agent to shutdown the PBX along with the VM. I talked to APC support to see if they could give me any additional info, but the tech I talked to seemed to have no idea what I was asking(she actually told me "You can just put the PBX IP in during the Windows agent installation, in place of the NMC's IP and that will allow everything to be shutdown without any additional credentials of config"), so before I give them another shot I figured I'd post it in the community. I do currently have all APC UPS' but am absolutely willing to make the jump to Eaton or another reputable brand if they have a better solution.
