Our normal setup at client sites is an APC UPS that shuts the server down if there is a power outage and the battery level gets below a certain level. We then set the server BIOS to switch the server on whenever power is restored.
This generally works fine except for one situation, which has coincidentally happened at two of our clients' sites over the last couple of weeks:
After a power outage, the server continues to run on battery until the battery reaches a certain level. At this point, the UPS sends the shutdown command to the server. The mains power is then restored half way though the server shutting down so the server continues to shut down and never receives that 'power restored' signal to restart.
Is there a better way of configuring this that I am missing? At the moment, the only answer I have is for someone to manually just...
