I am trying to decide if it is worth the cost to give certain users a UPS or not. The whole building has a backup generator. The only reason to give them a UPS is so that their workstations do not power off while the generator kicks in. In the past 9 months, the power has gone out maybe 3 times, 5 tops, and they were all just blips in power, not out for more than a few seconds but enough that the computers turn off .
Users are always asking for a UPS just for that reason but I don't think the battery costs outweigh the benefit of them possibly losing work if their pc restarts. For me the costs would just be batteries as I already have a few old UPS that just need a battery replacement. Users who would get it would mostly be programmers.
To me it seems spending ~$50 per battery would cost more than the work time lost, especially since...
