We just ordered a bunch of Eaton 5S1000LCD UPSes, and they've got this really strong odor - it's like petroleum.
They arrived by freight. I thought it was just the packaging, but the UPSes are still offgassing several days later, and even after wiping them down with an all-purpose cleaner.
It doesn't seem like the normal new equipment burn-in smell.
Smells kerosene or jet fuel, almost.
They seem to work just fine so far.
Most of the boxes were fully intact, no damage, and show no signs of soaking.
UPSes were still in plastic bags upon removal from factory sealed boxes.
Anyone have any experience with this? Trying to determine whether it's normal or whether I need to seek replacement. Can't have this going on longer than a week in all areas of the building. It gets stronger the more of these things we put in place.
