I was about to send a PM to windso (Eaton)to follow up on a chat at SpiceWorld and ask for help sizing some battery backups for my switches. I figured I post it instead and get feedback and share the answers with the community.
I have (x4) HP Procurve 2920-24G-POE+ and (x6) HP Procurve 2920-48G-POE+ switches in various places outside of my datacenter, mostly on long failed or very underpowered battery backups. Currently the POE is only used for 0-2 wireless access points per switch, but more POE usage is likely in the future.
I'd like to be able to get 5-20 minutes of uptime in my current configuration and if we add other POE devices in the future such as VoIP phones maintain at least 5 minutes of battery life. Only the switch will be connected to these UPS units.
I've attached the quick specs which have power information on these...
