I have a TrippLite SU3000RTXR3U UPS (http://www.tripplite.com/support/SU3000RTXR3U) that is powering the 2nd power supplies in my two vSphere hosts and firewall - as well as afibre transceiverand a GS748Tv5network switch. All in all, it's pulling about 8A and 900W.
We have a scheduled power outage this weekend for 8 hours and I'm looking to hook up that UPS to a portable gas generator to get us through the outage. I'm fortunate enough that we're on the ground level and there is a gas station across the road from us so I'll be able to refill the generator when it's low.
The specs on the UPS state that it is a "SmartOnline 120V 3kVA 2.4kW Double-Conversion" UPS - which to me means that it will filter and adjust thepower from the generator so that the servers connected to it receive a clean feed of electricity.
